Questions? We've Got Answers

Should I make soap along with Shanna during the live class?

Nope! Sit back, grab a cup of coffee, and enjoy the show. ☕

Watch Shanna live each night, then make your own batch with the replay. You can pause, rewind, and go at your own pace. It's the most relaxed way to make your first batch, and you've got this!

How do I join the live classes?

Classes are live on Zoom every night, November 2–6, at 7:00 PM Central. We'll email you the Zoom link before class.

Your welcome email also has your login for the class hub, where the replays are posted. We kick things off with Coffee with Shanna on November 1. Watch your email for the details. We can't wait to see you there!

What time is class where I live?
  • 8:00 PM Eastern
  • 7:00 PM Central
  • 3:00 PM tomorrow on Kiritimati (Christmas Island), where it's already Tuesday. Yes, really! 🎄
  • 6:00 PM Mountain
  • 5:00 PM Pacific
  • 4:00 PM Alaska
  • 3:00 PM Hawaii

Daylight saving time ends November 1, the night before class starts, so double-check your clocks!

I didn't get my welcome email, or I can't log in.
  • Check your spam and Promotions folders, and search your inbox for "Soapmaking Week." Gmail users: drag our email to your Primary tab so you don't miss the Zoom links.
  • To log in to the class hub, go to soapmaking.brbgoatmilksoap.com/smw and request a Magic Link. We'll email you a login link that works for 60 minutes. No password needed.
  • Use the same email address you used at checkout.

Still stuck? Email events@brbgoatmilksoap.com and we'll get you in.

Will there be replays? How long can I watch them?

Yes! Each class recording is posted in your class hub after the live session. Give us a few hours to get it up. You'll have access through January 4, 2027.

My Zoom has sound but no video. What do I do?

Install the free Zoom desktop app (instead of watching in your web browser) and join with the Meeting ID and passcode from your email. On a phone or tablet, use the Zoom app. If it still won't cooperate, don't worry: the replay will be in your class hub after class.

Do I have to buy the Equipment Bundle?

Nope. Pull things from your kitchen, shop the thrift store, buy the bundle, or mix and match. Just follow a few rules:

  • Anything metal must be stainless steel, never aluminum.
  • Plastic must be sturdy and heat-safe (no dollar-store bowls).
  • Your scale needs to read to 0.1 oz and be big enough to hold your bucket and still show the display.
  • Use a digital thermometer, not a dial.
  • Once a tool is used for soap, it stays a soap tool and doesn't go back to the kitchen.

The Equipment Bundle covers everything except the scale, thermometer, and glass mixing bowl, which you can add separately.

Do I need the Day 2 and Day 3 project kits?

Only if you want to make every project. The Day 2 kit has the scent and colors for the swirled soap. The Day 3 kit has the natural additives and fragrance for the charcoal mud facial bar. For Day 3 you'll also need a little castor oil and a swirl tool, which aren't in the kit.

Optional: high-percentage rubbing alcohol helps take care of soda ash on your bars as they cure.

I've never made soap before. Is this for me?

Absolutely! Shanna starts from the very beginning, and Monday's class covers safety and your first batch.

And you're joining a fun, supportive group. You'll feel warmly welcomed, whatever your experience level. 💛

Is working with lye safe? What about kids and pets?

Lye needs respect, not fear. Shanna covers lye safety on Monday before anyone makes a batch. Wear goggles and gloves, and plan to make soap when kids and pets are out of the room.

I bought Lotion Training. Where do I find it?

It's in your class hub, below the Soapmaking Week replays. The workbook is under the Attachments tab.
